It Starts with a Seed: Native Seeds, Drought, and Restoration in Southwest National Parks

In recent years, the National Park Service (NPS) Burned Area Rehabilitation (BAR) program has increasingly prioritized obtaining native, genetically appropriate native plant materials (i.e. seeds) for use in post-fire restoration. From wildland seed collection through restoration, there are myriad considerations to ensure high quality seed is used in the right place and at the right time. This talk will walk through the NPS native plant materials development process, and how we navigate drought and other challenges to build a restoration seed supply for the Southwest.
