South Africa’s Namaqualand Region
Namaqualand is a region in the Northern Cape Province of South Africa, located in the northwest part of the country. It is a largely treeless and arid region, with a Mediterranean climate. Namaqualand is home to numerous endemic succulent plants, many of which are familiar to horticulture. It is also famous for its annual spring wildflower displays. Namaqualand is divided into several distinct biomes. This talk will focus on the Klipkoppe Region (Rock Hills Region) which is centered around the town of Springbok, the largest town in the otherwise little-populated Namaqualand region.
